Benny and Chewy Reunited

A holiday weekend was the perfect opportunity for Benny the Beagle and Chewy the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to escape! With the help of a visible AKC Reunite collar tag, this dynamic duo was home before the firework display!

“On July 3, Benny and Chewy were dropped off to play with their grandparents’ dogs while our family went out of town for the July 4^th weekend,” said Cameron, Benny and Chewy’s owner. “We had a funny feeling all night and our funny feeling turned into a very concerned, stressed-out feeling and we decided to drive back that July 4^th morning, to check on our dogs.”

Unfortunately, they arrived at their grandparent’s house and Benny and Chewy were missing. Somehow, their dogs escaped, most likely through a gate that wasn’t shut all the way — and they were on the run!

Cameron’s family immediately started posting about their “lost dogs” on social media hoping to spread the word quickly. They drove around the city for hours looking for Benny and Chewy but with no luck.

Finally, after 6 hours of searching, Cameron received the good news from AKC Reunite — a good Samaritan found both Benny and Chewy together and used Benny’s AKC Reunite collar tag to contact our recovery service hotline and report the pets found!

“I knew Benny had his dog tag on but Chewy did not; the thought of them splitting up was become a big concern,” said Cameron. “I got a call from a woman from AKC Reunite to confirm that Benny was found WITH Chewy! When I got Benny back, I noticed all his tags were worn out to the point that they were not readable, except for the AKC Reunite tag. I am beyond thankful for AKC Reunite and the service they provide to help get people’s lost pets back to them!”
