This Holiday, Let’s All Do Our Part to Keep Our Pets Safe

TIP 1: BE MINDFUL OF LOUD GUESTS AND FIREWORKS

Remember your pet may not be as excited as you to see a house-full of people. Keep your pet in a safe, quiet area free of new people, excited children and loud voices, music and fireworks. Loud noises stress pets and many do all they can to flee.

TIP 2: OPEN DOORS ARE PERFECT FOR FOUR-LEGGED ESCAPE ARTISTS

As guests come and go, be mindful of your pets whereabouts so they don’t take advantage of open doors to sneak out of the house.

TIP 3: KEEP PET RECORDS UP TO DATE

TIP 4: SKIP THE SNACKS – CHOCOLATE, GRAPES AND RAISINS ARE BAD

Holiday sweets with chocolate or raisins are toxic to pets. Keep these treats out of reach of your pet at all times. While baking those holiday cookies and pies, remember that batter can contain raw eggs, which can potentially have salmonella bacteria and lead to food poisoning. Also avoid the temptation of feeding scraps to your pets. Your pet could be allergic to the ingredients or get an upset stomach.

TIP 5: SOME HOLLY ISN’T JOLLY

Holiday decorations are beautiful, except they are not meant to be eaten…if only pets understood this. Poinsettias, although not poisonous, can cause a bad stomach ache for your pet, and holly and mistletoe can be toxic. Christmas tree needles can injure your pets intestines, too. Keep the additional cords tucked away from your pet to help reduce the chance of being chewed on. Also, if burning holiday candles, place them up high to lower the risk of a fire if knocked over by a wagging tail.
