Microchips really do work — just ask Alyssa, whose four legged best-friend ran away from home and was only reunited with her after his microchip was scanned.

Jackson was chipped as a puppy before ever going to live with Alyssa – and thank goodness he was! As an active dog, Jackson was always eager to run off his extra energy outside, especially when he could play a rowdy game of chase with Alyssa! Usually, Jackson would come back when he was called or when the energy was out of his system so he could take a nice, long nap. But this time, when her dad let Jackson out to play, he didn’t come back.

Alyssa was on her way back to college and found out that Jackson was gone! She was absolutely devastated but had already traveled too far from home to easily turn around. Instead she sat idle back at school for two days and was dependent on her dad, AKC Reunite, and Jackson’s microchip to bring him home safely.

For the next 48 hours, Alyssa shared, “I was worried sick until I got back [home.]  I had planned to go straight to the humane society in the morning [when they were open] and find out if he was taken there.” But before she could even look up the facility’s hours, she was contacted by the humane society — they had Jackson! He’d been found! After a quick scan his enrolled microchip was detected and the next morning, with proof of ownership in tow, Alyssa was reunited with her furry best friend!

“He was missing for two days in the cold. I felt so helpless on what I could do while being so far away,” said Alyssa. “I am so thankful that he has a microchip and that AKC Reunite made it possible for him to come home!”
