Ziggy the Zone Breaker

A big rain and some soft soil are all Ziggy needed to make her grand escape! And, one morning after a significant downpour, her feat was accomplished.

Ziggy woke up around 3 a.m. bright-eyed and bushy-tailed eager to go outside. Her owner, Tessa, sleepily shuffled to the door to let Ziggy out into their fenced-in yard. Ziggy soon discovered the soil was damp and soft and started to dig … and boy, did she dig!

Determined to see what was beyond the fence, Ziggy kept digging until she could slip her whole body under the fence. When she finally slithered through, Ziggy was by a major road where traffic could easily become a death trap! Thankfully, she was rescued from potential traffic perils when a Good Samaritan collected Ziggy from the side of the road. Shortly after Ziggy’s rescue, a local police officer pulled up to the scene and took Ziggy to the police station to scan for a possible microchip. Thankfully, Ziggy was chipped and AKC Reunite was able to provide the police department with Tessa’s contact information!

“I received a call from [the police department] at 4:50 a.m. stating they had Ziggy!” said Tessa. “They even drove her home to us right after our phone call!”

Ziggy’s escape was short lived thanks to her microchip, but after her vanishing act, we expect she’ll be on lock-down until the soil dries up!
