Local AKC dog clubs and AKC Pet Disaster Relief, a national program spearheaded by AKC Reunite that is dedicated to keeping pets and their owners safe in the aftermath of tornadoes, floods, wildfires and other natural or civil disasters, donated a life-saving pet disaster relief trailers, the first of its kind in the state of Colorado, to officials from Adams County.

The trailers house and deliver essential supplies such as fans, lighting and generators; cleaning supplies; maintenance items; and animal care items including crates and carries, AKC Reunite microchips and an AKC Reunite universal microchip scanner as well as bowls, collars and leashes. These supplies can be used as co-location shelters, where people can evacuate with their pets, as well as emergency animal shelters for displaced animals.

The purchase of the trailers was made possible by $44,000 in donations and grants from the members of the Airedale Terrier Club of America, American Miniature Schnauzer Club, American Rottweiler Club, Arapahoe Kennel Club, Bernese Mountain Dog Club of the Rockies, Buckhorn Valley Kennel Club, Cairn Terrier Club of Denver, Colorado Kennel Club, Colorado Springs Kennel Club, English Springer Spaniel Field Trial Association, Evergreen Colorado Kennel Club, Gordon Setter Club of America, Greater Denver Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier Club, Greeley Kennel Club, Irish Setter Club of Colorado, Metro Mile Hi Kennel Club, Peak to Peak Working Dog Association, Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of the Rockies, Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen Club of America, Pharaoh Hound Club of America, Plum Creek Kennel Club, Rocky Mountain All Terrier Club, Field Spaniel Society of America, Flatirons Kennel Club and AKC Reunite, the nation’s largest non-profit pet identification and recovery service.
