Contact AKC Reunite at 800-252-7894 or click here to report your pet missing immediately. When your pet is reported found, we will call, text and email you so please verify your contact information is complete and up-to-date. Also, add AKC Reunite’s phone number (800-252-7894) to your mobile address book so that you will recognize us when we call you.

How does someone know to contact AKC Reunite when my pet’s microchip is scanned?2023-06-07T10:54:38-04:00

Any brand of microchip enrolled with AKC Reunite is automatically searchable by the American Animal Hospital Association’s free National Pet Microchip Lookup Tool found at aaha.org/petmicrochiplookup. Whenever your pet’s microchip is scanned, veterinarians, animal shelters, pet rescue organizations, and Animal Control Officers use this tool so they know to contact AKC Reunite!

When your pet’s identification number is reported to AKC Reunite, we will immediately send text messages and emails to you and any Alternate Contacts on your pet’s enrollment record. We will then call you and your designated Alternate Contacts. This is why it is very important that you keep your contact information up-to-date with AKC Reunite. You can update your pet’s record any time via your Online Records System Account or by completing the form below, free of charge.

First, make sure it’s safe to approach the lost pet. Then, it is extremely important to get a loose pet to a protected area and off of the streets for its safety. If you feel safe, slowly approach any loose animal. Otherwise call animal control for assistance.

Call any phone numbers on the pet’s identification tags, or take the pet to a veterinarian to be scanned for a microchip.

If you take any pet into your home for temporary shelter, keep the pet separate from your family members and pets. You cannot know how any pet will react in an unfamiliar place around new people or pets.

What is a Primary Contact?2023-05-04T09:49:35-04:00

A Primary Contact is the main contact listed on a pet’s enrollment. The Primary Contact has the ability to make updates to their information. Their information is used as verification by Shelters when a pet is owner-surrendered into a Shelter’s care.

Enrollment in AKC Reunite will help the safe return of your pet when they are found, but does not signify ownership.

What is an Alternate Contact?2023-05-05T12:52:23-04:00

An Alternate Contact is an additional point of contact on a pet’s enrollment. When an enrolled pet is found we will call, text, and email each Primary and Alternate Contact listed on the pet’s enrollment record. AKC Reunite recommends including at least one Alternate Contact that resides outside of the Primary Contact’s immediate area in case of a catastrophic event that may cause phone and internet outages in your immediate, affected area.
