Olive’s Microchip Saves The Day

REUNITED: In a few days

Yay! Microchips work! Thank you, Laura D. for sharing Olive the Treeing Walker Coonhound’s reunion story!  We are so happy that she is safe and found!

“Olive got out of our fenced backyard in after a heavy rainstorm when everything that could go wrong seemed to. She wears a GPS collar because she is a hound rescue, and given the opportunity she will run and follow her nose. We take it off to charge at night when she won’t be leaving the house, however, she does go out in the fenced yard if she needs to.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t know that the rain had caused the wood to swell and the gate latch was no longer secure. Along comes some wind, the gate blows open, and Olive was off with NO COLLAR. We were a mess, desperately driving around all through the night looking for her. All our neighbors helped, but to no avail. It was a nightmare.

“I contacted AKC Reunite to report her missing, as well as every other site and posting I could think of. Later the following morning I got a message from AKC Reunite that our dog was found and was at the shelter. The feeling of joy was overwhelming. They were able to reach us quickly because of her microchip. She had been picked up by the best human – being we’ve never met – at the entrance to I-495 [in Alexandria, Virginia,…] an incredibly dangerous area. We are beyond grateful! She was healthy and happy to come home!”
