Spot the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

After being on the run for about 16 hours, Spot was finally spotted. And thanks to his AKC Reunite enrolled microchip, Spot was safely returned home.

“I still have no idea how Spot got out of the yard,” said Meg, Spot’s owner. “When I noticed him missing, I brought my other dogs inside and started to search the neighborhood for him. I spent 3 hours until dark driving up and down the roads, [and then] I contacted AKC Reunite and the local animal control to report him missing.”

While on the phone with AKC Reunite, Meg decided to add the Lost Pet Alert feature to Spot’s enrollment, which immediately alerted participating shelters, veterinarians, and pet lovers in her area that Spot was on the run.

Desperate to find Spot, Meg continued searching and even called on a friend who conducts search and rescue operations to help track her lost dog. While tracking Spot deep into a corn field and soybean field, Meg’s phone finally rang — Spot had been spotted and turned into Boone County Animal Services, where his microchip was scanned.

“We got a call from animal control that he had been found,” said Meg. “I want to thank AKC Reunite and animal control. AKC Reunite sent an alert out to vets, rescue groups, and animal control in a 10 mile radius from my home. [And] because of COVID-19, an animal control officer even brought Spot to the house!”

We’re happy to report Spot is home safe and sound, and is enjoying a little extra quality time!
