AKC Pet Disaster Relief Trailer to Help Displaced Pets in Seguin, TX
AKC Reunite, the largest non-profit pet identification and recovery service provider in the United States is pleased to announce its donation of an AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailer in Seguin, TX. This life-saving equipment will be available to dispatch to any local disaster scene that needs assistance sheltering pets. This trailer was delivered on April 5th after a tornado tore through Guadalupe County. It will assist Guadalupe County Emergency Management in helping community pets that may become displaced from the storm.
AKC Pet Disaster Relief is a nationwide program sponsored by AKC Reunite, the country’s largest non-profit microchip identification and recovery service. AKC Reunite partners with AKC® Dog Clubs and pet lovers across the country to make these donations a reality. The Seguin trailer was made possible by an initial donation from the Alamo Brittany Club, as well as the Texas Coastal Brittany Club, Dog Judges Association of America and Rushmore CARES.

“This is the 96th trailer donated through our AKC Reunite Pet Disaster Relief program. With the donation of this trailer, many displaced pets can be cared for during their time of need,” said Tom Sharp, AKC Reunite CEO. “We are happy to be a resource in Guadalupe County’s recovery efforts and to be able to help make a difficult time a little easier.”
The equipment in the AKC Pet Disaster Relief trailers helps to create a safe, temporary home-base for at least 65 pets during the first 72 hours after a disaster is declared. The trailers house and deliver essential animal care items including crates and carriers, AKC Reunite microchips and an AKC Reunite universal microchip scanner, bowls, collars and leashes as well as fans, lighting and a generator, cleaning supplies and maintenance items. These supplies can be used as co-location shelters, where people can evacuate with their pets, as well as emergency animal shelters for displaced animals.

“This trailer will be an awesome resource for Guadalupe County Emergency Management when our neighbors are in need,” said Niclaus Taula’i, Agility Chair for the Alamo Brittany Club. “Before Hurricane Harvey in 2017, we did not know about the pet disaster relief trailer program, but seeing those trailers deployed lit a fire under us to bring that resource to South Central Texas. Our area recently experienced a tornado outbreak, and thankfully the damage was not more widespread. In the future, this trailer will help our community partners step in and provide some peace of mind for our neighbors in need.”
