Host A Microchipping Clinic In Your Community

A Microchipping Clinic is fun fund-raising event that benefits pets in your community!

Getting Started

You will first need to pick a location and secure a local veterinarian to administer the microchip in accordance with local ordinances and statutes.

Where local microchipping statutes and guidelines allow, talk to your local Parks and Rec Department or school’s Principal about hosting a weekend event at their site. These locations are ideal since they are already staged for a Drive-Thru format because of weekday carpool drop-off lanes!

Request a well-shaded area or have room to set up a tent with long tables and offer microchipping as a “bonus” activity at the event.

Attract and educate local pet lovers on the care and attention you provide pets your community.

Set up a scanning station and scan pets’ existing microchips to educate the public on how microchips work. Many pet owners will be surprised to learn their pet’s microchip is not an online directory or a gps!

You can also have a tablet on site to lookup the chip number immediately at aaha.org/petmicrochiplookup. If the pet is not enrolled, give them an enrollment form to enroll their pet’s chip at AKC Reunite right away!

Microchipping Clinic Checklist

Start planning your event at least 6 weeks in advance
and follow these steps to host your microchipping clinic.

Before The Clinic

You will want two people to handle microchipping: one person to hold the animal and the veterinarian to implant the microchip. Other team members can help answer questions and manage payment and paperwork.

Cell phone-friendly payment tools like “Square” make it easy. If you are going to accept cash, have plenty of spare change and a lock box and ledger.

Download this Press Release Template and customizable event flyer to engage local media and also promote on all of your socials.
Please call 800-252-7894 or email microchip@akcreunite.org. We are here to help! Our Microchip Sales Team Office Hours are Monday-Friday, 8:30am to 5pm Eastern.
