Getting Started

Did you know each microchip includes six adhesive labels printed with the microchip number to:

Verify the pet’s ID number during microchip implantation.
Affix to important paperwork before the pet goes home.

Step 1

Scan the pet between their shoulder blades to show where the microchip is located.

Step 2

Show the new pet owner the ID number on the scanner after the microchip ID number is read.

Step 3

Show how the ID number on the scanner matches the ID number on the adhesive label placed on the microchip enrollment form, contract and other registration paperwork.

Step 4

Emphasize the importance of making sure the pet’s microchip ID number is enrolled with AKC Reunite so we can contact the new pet owner when their pet is found!

IMPORTANT!

The microchip scanner only displays the microchip number. It does not store any contact information.

Many pet owners will be surprised to learn a microchip is not an online directory or a GPS!
