AKC Reunite microchips begin with the numbers 956 and are manufactured exclusively by Trovan. This guarantees no two pets will have the same ID number!

Here’s what to look for and ask about when choosing a microchip provider:

AKC Reunite Microchips are unique, begin with the numbers 956 and only manufactured by Trovan.

If you go to https://www.icar.org/index.php/rfid-iso/ and enter the first three digits of your microchip ID number – under MANUFACTURER CODE, you will see whether or not your ID numbers are unique or have a risk of being classified as knock-offs.

For example, Microchips beginning with 900 are produced by many different organizations, meaning there can be duplicated ID numbers.

AKC Reunite microchips are ISO Compliant and ICAR Certified assuring each pet is identified with its own unique microchip ID number that can be read with an ISO scanner.

If a microchip is only ICAR or ISO Conformant, it can be read by microchip readers but there is no guarantee its ID number is unique. This means two pets could be microchipped with the same ID number. It also means the microchips are likely produced in China without stringent quality control production standards.
