Archer’s Morning Escape

REUNITED: In a few minutes

While his family briefly ran inside a restaurant to get food, Archer the Brittany escaped through a cracked car window unbeknownst to his family! Minutes later he was safely reunited with the help of an enrolled microchip and AKC Reunite.

Although Archer has a variety of GPS tracking collars and regular collars, he wasn’t wearing one on this particular day. So, when Archer escaped, he had no visible identification! Thankfully he had a microchip enrolled with AKC Reunite, so if he was found and scanned for a microchip, we could be notified and let his family know of his whereabouts.

“Long story short my pup escaped my vehicle (through a cracked window) that was open for ventilation,” recalled James, Archer’s owner. “Apparently the window was cracked too much and he got out while we were inside eating — and there was busy highway by the parking lot!”

Archer has received several dog obedience awards, so his escape was unexpected! His journey was short-lived when a good Samaritan picked him up, took him to a nearby vet clinic for a microchip scan!

“We didn’t even know he had escaped yet,” recalled James. “And he’d been on the run, had his chip scanned at a nearby animal hospital (which turned out to be his actual veterinarian), and then we got a text message [from AKC Reunite] stating that he had been found. All while we were still sitting and eating.”

“We couldn’t believe it! He was safe at the vet no injuries… Apparently, after he escaped, he went to the restaurant door and pawed at it because he wanted to come inside with us. That’s when someone found him and took him in (to the vet’s office)! Without the microchip, we would have finished breakfast and gone to an empty vehicle with no idea where our Archer went, and panic would have set in.”
