Ash is AKC Reunited!

REUNITED: In an hour

Ash the Labrador Retriever enjoys farm living but recently started pushing his farmland’s boundaries and escaped the property. With the help of his visible identification, Ash was reunited!

“We live on a farm and Ash has always stayed close to the house and never ventured off,” recalled Laura, Ash’s owner. “But, for some reason the past few months when we leave, he tries to run after us down our gravel road and onto a county highway. We think maybe because our one son got married and moved out and the other one is in veterinarian school — so Ash has become very attached to us.”

After the first escape, Ash was found quickly and returned home by Laura’s brother-in-law. From there, Laura ensured Ash was wearing his AKC Reunite collar tag for everyone to clearly see and help him just in case he went missing again!

“The second time I was not at home and that is when Ash tried to follow my husband who left to go to harvest a field that was not close to home,” said Laura. “Well at the end of our gravel road there were some construction workers on the side of the highway minding their own business and Ash walked right up to them. Thank goodness I had put that AKC Reunite tag on him a few weeks prior!”

Laura was at the checkout counter of a store when she got the call from AKC Reunite. With all of the background noise, Laura could not hear the conversation on the other line. Thankfully, our Reuniters Helpline Team Member waited until the signal was clearer to share the good news — Ash had been found!

“The AKC Reunite representative on the other end was very patient with me and waited until I was out of the store to put the cell phone on speaker so I could hear what was happening,” said Laura. “I was so happy that the construction worker looked at his tag and called AKC Reunite which in turn texted all numbers that we had on file for Ash — and also called me,” said Laura. “My husband left the field and picked Ash up at the construction site. We decided [from now on] that when we leave home and he is alone, he will have to stay in the house instead of having his freedom!”
