REUNITED: In an hour

Coal the 11-month old Miniature Schnauzer discovered how to escape the safety of his backyard, two days in a row. Thanks to his AKC Reunite collar tag, Coal could be reunited back to back days within an hour of his escape!

“Each morning he likes to spend time in the backyard just doing what dogs do,” recalled Anise, Coal’s owner. “We leave the door open for him to come in when he is ready, but Coal seemed to have found a way to slip beneath the fence of our backyard!”

Unfortunately, on both days, Coal discovered a way to escape his fenced-in yard without his family knowing. But with the help of some good Samaritans nearby, Coal could be safely reunited.

“We live in a quiet neighborhood full of dog-loving people looking out for the four-legged residents of our community,” said Anise. “In both instances, the people who intercepted Coal during his adventures called AKC Reunite [from his collar tag] to report him as found. AKC Reunite then shared our contact information with the finder as well as emailed AND called us directly with the report!”

After Coal escaped and was returned the first time, Anise’s family were shocked. On his second return home, they tried to locate his departure path and discovered a small gap, caused by warping of a fence slat. Being only a few pounds, he could squeeze right through the opening.

“In the interest of safety, we aren’t huge fans of having our address displayed on collar tags,” said Anise. “The AKC Reunite tag provides an option for connecting finders with owners while protecting privacy. Without AKC Reunite it could have taken much longer for us to be reunited. We are so happy to have Coal home safe!”
