Bear’s Backyard Escape!

REUNITED: In an hour

While Bear, the recently adopted Shiba Inu, was enjoying the comforts of his new home, but when he noticed a damaged part of his fenced-in backyard, he went exploring! Thankfully his owner enrolled Bear’s microchip with AKC Reunite so we could reunite Bear within the hour.

“On that day, Bear followed me outside without his collar, as I did some work in the yard,” recalled Yanira, Bear’s owner. “My two sons, who adore Bear, think that the collar he wears, which has his name and my phone number, is too ‘uncomfortable” for him.’ So, they take it off of him when he’s in the house.”

When Yanira was busy outside in the yard, Bear discovered some fence damage from a recent storm and secretly escaped! Then, when Yanira discovered he was missing, a search immediately began. Thankfully, he was spotted by a good Samaritan who took him to the Panhandle Animal Welfare Society where his microchip was scanned and AKC Reunite was notified.

“Within the hour, while we were frantically driving around the neighborhood, I got a text message [and phone call] from AKC Reunite saying that he had been taken to our local animal shelter,” said Yanira. “The text included his microchip ID number, the name of the shelter, and a link to AKC Reunite. My older son, who was out of town, also got a text since he was an alternate contact on file!”

“We got Bear in January as an owner surrender and when we found out he was microchipped, I immediately went to AKC Reunite and requested a transfer. A month later I got confirmation that my information was updated. I am very grateful for the AKC Reunite service!”
