BrakePad is Home Safe!

REUNITED: In an hour

With a recent fire alarm scare, BrakePad the Dachshund put her foot on the gas and took off out of fear! An hour later she was safely reunited with the help of a good Samaritan and AKC Reunite’s Lost Pet Alert!

“BrakePad is a quiet, sweet, and timid Dachshund… who is terrified of the fire alarm. And on a recent Thursday afternoon, she escaped when the fire alarm went off in our house,” recalled Dori, BrakePad’s owner. “We did everything from calling friends to come help search for her, to notifying the local police (who helped search for over an hour!), to knocking on doors, posting on NextDoor and sending emails to local groups. I also activated AKC Reunite’s “Lost Pet Alert” service — which was awesome because it also auto-created some “lost dog” posters for us!”

As it turns out, circulating the Lost Pet Alert posters were a huge success! They ultimately helped reunite BrakePad with her family! “We went around town hanging them up through the neighborhood and at local businesses. That’s when we found BrakePad happy, safe, and being extremely well-loved and taken care of by the receptionist for a nearby office building!” said Dori. “Since BrakePad wasn’t wearing a collar with my phone number, the receptionist was simply keeping her safe and happy until her work shift ended for the day and she could take BrakePad to get microchip scanned! Needless to say, BrakePad will begin wearing a collar again!”
