Charley’s Chilly Adventure!

REUNITED: In a few minutes!

Recently adopted, Charley the German Shepherd, is still getting acclimated to his new owner. When he joined his new family on an out of town visit, Charley decided to test the boundaries and escape! With the help of AKC Reunite and a good Samaritan, Charley was safely reunited!

“Experienced ‘escape artist’ Charley was outside on “balmy” 25 degree evening in Minnesota,” said Meg, Charley’s new owner. “We were away from our usual home in Chicago and instead back with my family for the month to help out. Charly was outside enjoying watching the sun writher away as he was sat outside attached to a 30 ft cable tie-out.”

Somehow, still unbeknownst to Meg, Charley escaped the yard pulling the 30-ft cable tie with him! Thankfully, when a good Samaritan noticed the dog bounding down a road dragging a cable tie, she knew he was a lost pet on the run!

“Charley knows he’s been called mischievous but his latest act was defied logic for both me and the woman who found Charley wandering down [a main street] with 30-feet of orange cable behind him,” said Meg. “[Thankfully, Charley’s finder] looked out the window at the right time and saw a pooch with a very long orange trail and knew this dog wasn’t supposed to be on a walk alone!”

The good Samaritan immediately went after Charley, but quickly turned into a game of chase! With the help of the dragging cable, Charley’s finder was able to stomp on the cable and end the pursuit. After checking out his collar tag, she immediately notified AKC Reunite’s 24/7 Recovery Service Hotline.

“Charley’s tag had his personalized microchip number and the 1-800 AKC Reunite number,” said Meg. “And several phone calls later, Charley was back with me and her grandparents, but this time [it was] in front of the fire, and the cable was put back in place (with modifications) outside!”

“He’s a great dog; a bit mischievous, but truthfully, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
