Darting Beau!

REUNITED: In 30 minutes

Beau, the Miniature Poodle, stayed inside and safe with his owner during the 4^th of July festivities. But when Beau went out to use the bathroom with his owner after the fireworks were over, a neighbor set off their personal fireworks and Beau fled his yard to hide! Thankfully, he was found and kept safe at the local police department until Beau could be reunited with his owners.

“On the Fourth of July we were at our summer house in Maine,” said Emilie, Beau’s owner. “My husband reminded me from past experience not to bring our mini poodles to watch the fireworks, since they are too loud and upsetting to them. So, our daughter and I walked to the park where the fireworks would be shot over the harbor while my husband decided to stay at home inside with the dogs.”

Nearly half an hour later, after fireworks’ finale, Emilie’s husband let the dogs out to use the bathroom. Sadly, a neighbor continued celebrating Independence Day by lighting more fireworks while the pups were outside!

“When the fireworks were over, my husband took the two dogs outside,” said Emilie. “Unexpectedly a neighbor shot off a Roman Candle! Beau, our five year old Miniature Poodle, apparently took-off in the dark while the older one stayed right at [my husband’s] side. It was very scary because we live on the Main Street and cars were pouring away after the fireworks!”

Emilie and her family immediately began searching for Beau. After half an hour and no Beau, they alerted the local police. It turns out Beau had been found! In the chaos of the search, Emilie hadn’t noticed the missed calls that Beau was safe and could be picked up!

“I called the local police to report him missing, when the officer said, ‘We have him. I called you two times. Someone found him and brought him in,’” said Emilie. “As I walked to the police station, I noticed that I had text and email messages from AKC Reunite too! The system totally worked and we are so very grateful. I just told one of our daughter’s friends to please get her dog microchipped — Thank you AKC Reunite!”
