Googie’s Escape!

REUNITED: In 12 Hours

Googie the 16 year-old European Shorthair Cat, pulled a stunt and disappeared for the first time ever! Thanks to a good Samaritan for reporting him found to AKC Reunite, Googie could be reunited!

“At 1:20 a.m. on a rainy night, Googie (short for Goo Goo Cluster) walked out the back door and disappeared into the brush,” recalled Caddy, Googie’s owner. “We spent a terrifying night searching and calling for him and at 5:20 a.m., I updated his AKC Reunite information then collapsed for a few hours.”

Thankfully, Caddy awoke to a phone ringing and a call from AKC Reunite letting Caddy know that Googie had been found safe not only a mile away!

“When I saw that AKC Reunite was calling, my heart sank; I thought surely I must have omitted necessary information [when updating his details],” said Caddy. “But they said on the phone that he’d been found less than a mile away and I was unable to grasp this — it was way too soon! I kept asking, “Found?” “Found?” “Found?” as though I had never heard this word before!”

As it turns out, after Googie had made his great escape, he was found by a good Samaritan laying out in the hot sun underneath a bush. The kind neighbor then reported him found after seeing his AKC Reunite collar tag and we could help reunite Googie with his family!

“At 16 years old, having crossed the Atlantic three times and lived in three countries, he’s never pulled a stunt like this,” said Caddy. “He really could not walk when he came home dehydrated and exhausted, but recovered over the weekend so that we did not even have to take him to the vet on Monday!”
