Hades Happy Reunion

REUNITED: After 8 months!

While visiting family in Nevada for the holidays, Hades the Alaskan Klee Kai went missing Christmas night! Thanks to a nearby animal shelter, Hades could be safely reunited months after going missing!

“My cousin was walking him when he got spooked and managed to get out of his harness and take off down the road,” recalled Kiku, Hades’ owner. “He is incredibly fast, and within seconds he was out of our sight! We spent an entire week looking for him before we had to drive back to our home in Utah. Every day I would scour the internet for him, calling shelters, veterinarians, and even rescues, but we started to lose hope around April.”

Fast forward to August, Kiku had a strange feeling while at work and decided to leave a meeting to check her phone. When she did, the best and most unexpected news popped up — Hades had been found thanks to his microchip enrolled with AKC Reunite!

“I had a missed call and called the number back only to realize it was from the City of Henderson Animal Care and Control in Nevada,” said Kiku. “Frankly, I was expecting to hear that they had found him deceased. What I wasn’t expecting was that he was perfectly happy and healthy and excited to come home…I was, and still am, flabbergasted!”

When Kiku arrived at the shelter, it was clear that Hades had been cared for as he had gained weight and had his nails trimmed! Kiku isn’t sure who was caring for Hades in this different city and state than his hometown but was thankful that Hades was in great condition!

“The ONLY reason we got him back was his microchip, since he had no collar on because of his great escape. I honestly did not recognize him at first glance,” said Kiku. “The shelter scanned his chip and we got a very happy boy back home.”

“AKC Reunite gave me a breath of hope after he disappeared. When I was able to report him as missing, it meant that veterinarians and others alike could scan his chip and see that he was missing. It meant that nobody could just claim him…. I’ve advocated for people to microchip their pets even before he went missing, because it leads to great reunions!”
