Oh Boy! Oscar is Reunited!
REUNITED: In one day
Even though Oscar the Golden Retriever was confined in his backyard, he found a way to escape and took off when his family was away! Thanks to a good Samaritan, a microchip enrolled with AKC Reunite, and a nearby Animal Hospital, Oscar was reunited!
“My wife and I have a newborn and a toddler and in the stress of her getting out of the house to an afternoon play date, my wife left Oscar in the fenced-in backyard which is not our normal practice,” said David, Oscar’s owner. “Unfortunately, while out there, he found a hole in the side fence” and took off!
After David’s wife returned a few hours later, she discovered Oscar was missing! Immediately the search began, and when David arrived home from work, they scoured the neighborhood and surrounding area for over three hours into the dark just hoping for something.
“We walk him a ton so he would be comfortable going in truly any direction from our house,” stated David. “Four different friends went out looking for him too, but unfortunately, he didn’t have a collar on. By 9 p.m., I went home, knowing that it was highly likely he was either dead from a car accident or happily in someone’s house being loved on – otherwise he would have come home already.”
Thankfully, the next morning David received the best news — Oscar had been found safely and his microchip had been scanned at a nearby veterinarian!
“The next morning, I got a call from Liberty Animal Hospital and from AKC Reunite that a neighbor had found him, kept him overnight in her bedroom and brought him in the next morning to vet,” said David. “They scanned his microchip and gave us a call. They actually didn’t reach me at first, so they called our Alternate Contact on file, which is one of my best friends. He went and picked up Oscar and brought him home!”
“Oscar was returned to us safely the next day – 100% because of the microchip and AKC Reunite! Without the chip, it would have been much more difficult to be reunited with him but as it was, it only took about 30 minutes from him arriving at the vet to being back at our house! So thankful!”
