Brought to you by Pet Poison Helpline & AKC Reunite

It is best to ALWAYS keep plants and flowers out of your pet’s reach, but following plants are “safer” option to have around the house.

Easter, Mother’s Day, and school graduations make spring the busiest season to give and receive flowers and plants. If you are planning on sending flowers for any upcoming holiday or event, request that toxic seasonal flowers like Lilies (Lilium sp, Hemerocallis sp.) and Sago Palms are NOT INCLUDED! They are extremely toxic, especially to cats! If your feline simply brushes by a lily and gets pollen on it’s coat, it could turn fatal if the pollen is inhaled or ingested when your cat is cleaning itself!

SUCCULENTS

Growing in popularity, succulents are a common indoor plant trend, and thankfully, they are relatively safe! Many popular succulent plants like Jade Plant, Christmas Cactus, Sedum, Agave, Money Plant, Crown of Thorns, Hoya, and Living Stone Plant. If any of these are consumed, your pet could suffer from mild stomach pain but should not require a trip to the veterinarian.

SPRING BLOOMS

Looking for more colorful blooms? Geranium, African Violet, Cycalmen, and Orchids are safe bets for your pet. Other lovely plants to consider include Ficus, Bromeliad, Calathea (Peacock Plant), and Croton Petra.

HOUSEPLANTS

For adding floral décor to your home, Snake Plants, Ponytail Palm, Spider Plant and Anthurium are among the safest options to have inside. Cala Liles and Peace Lilies are not true lilies so they are considered pet-friendly!

If your pet consumes anything not on its normal dietary list and you witness any changes to their behavior or weird symptoms develop, seek veterinary help or contact Pet Poison Helpline immediately.
