Zipping Zophie!
REUNITED: In two weeks
During a night-time beach trip, Zophie the Chihuahua Mix took off! Two weeks later, she was safely reunited with the help of a microchip scan!
“We went on a late night beach date and parked near the rocks like everyone else on Pacific Coast Highway,” recalled Julie, Zophie’s owner. “We accidentally had the door open for like five minutes [while sitting inside the car] but she usually never leaves the car unless we get out. Everything happened so fast once we realize she was out of the car!”
Immediately, Zophie’s family began searching for her under the car and around the parking lot. They followed a few sightings from other people and discovered a car had picked up Zophie from a main intersection and took off.
“We started searching that same night putting her all over social media, on lost dogs apps, Facebook, TikTok, and even YouTube,” recalled Julie. “We even searched every shelter spending all day printing out and hanging flyers. We contacted AKC Reunite to report her lost as well!”
Two weeks after Zophie disappeared, desperate from answers, Julie received the call of a lifetime — Zophie had been found at a shelter over 15 miles away!
“We got a call from AKC Reunite and they left me a voicemail saying they had found my baby and sent me the exact location of where she was at,” said Julie. “Immediately we called back and they gave us all the details and we drove as fast as we could to the San Gabriel Humane Shelter. [As it turns out] the person who turned her in said she was in the streets near the area she went missing, so they picked her and [then days later] turned her in.”
“I am so happy that my baby is microchipped and enrolled with AKC Reunite. The importance of having that extra step added to your pet’s protection changed all possibilities when they go missing. Knowing that regardless of any possible situation her microchip will get scanned and they will not wonder who the owner is… I am the happiest dog mom alive knowing I got a second chance to be with my fur baby.
